Responsibilities
The Micrographically Oriented Histographic Surgery (MOHS) Lab is seeking a Tissue Processing Specialist. This lab processes surgical tissues utilizing H&E stains along with a variety of immunohistochemical stains, all while the patient awaits in the surgical suite.

Tissue Processing Specialist:
Conducts a range of technical procedures leading to the preparation of microscopic slide specimens. Responsibilities include specimen accessioning, processing, and microtomy techniques involving paraffin, frozen, and plastic methods. Staining procedures encompass routine Hematoxylin and Eosin, special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemical staining, and in situ hybridization. Participation in on-call rotations, including weekends, is required.

Histotechnologist:


Prepares specimens and executes testing procedures on pathology samples, resulting in the creation of microscopic slide preparations for diagnostic and prognostic evaluation by the pathologist.

Applies technical knowledge to provide essential operational support to maintain and enhance testing activities.
Qualifications
Histology Technician (HT): An associate degree is mandatory.

Coursework must include:
A minimum of 24 semester hours, including at least 12 credit hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology, 6 credit hours in chemistry, and 6 credit hours in biology. Histology Technician (HT) certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) is required.

Histotechnologist (HTL):
A bachelor's degree is required.
Histotechnologist (HTL) certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) is necessary. Additional qualifications include graduation from a NAACLS accredited program, with preference given to graduates of the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Histology Technician Program.
Ability to accommodate scheduling changes, off shifts, holidays, on-call, and weekend work assignments is essential.
Histotechnologist (HTL or HTLi) certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) is required at the start date. Employees obtaining certification(s) after January 1, 2004, must demonstrate ongoing maintenance of certification.
