Combat Medical Specialist

As a vital member of the Army National Guard, you will serve as the primary defense against health crises and injuries affecting both civilians and Soldiers. In the role of a Health Care Specialist, you will engage in a rewarding career that combines medical expertise with service to your country.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide immediate medical assistance to casualties in combat situations
• Support both outpatient and inpatient medical care
• Train Soldiers in Combat Lifesaver and First Responder protocols
• Oversee the medical readiness and inventory of supplies and equipment

• Master patient care methodologies
• Acquire advanced medical treatment techniques
• Learn plaster casting methods

• Strong communication skills and ability to perform under pressure
• Interest in scientific disciplines such as chemistry, biology, and psychology
• Keen attention to detail
Through comprehensive training, you will gain the expertise needed for a successful transition to civilian roles in hospitals, clinics, nursing facilities, or rehabilitation centers. Opportunities may also arise in emergency medical services, medical assisting, or as a physician's assistant. Certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians at the EMT level or higher is required for this position.
Compensation and Training
Instead of incurring costs for training, you will receive a salary while you learn. The Army National Guard provides you with the opportunity to acquire essential skills while earning a steady income and accessing tuition assistance.
Training for Health Care Specialists consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where foundational Soldiering skills are taught, followed by 16 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT) focusing on patient care. The length of AIT may vary based on your chosen specialization, combining classroom instruction with practical field experience.
