Job Overview

Position Summary
The Preschool Education Assistant collaborates closely with the Lead Teacher in a comprehensive environment to achieve educational goals, policies, and activities aimed at fulfilling developmental objectives and performance standards. This role involves teamwork with classroom personnel and families to deliver a curriculum that is relevant and caters to both individual and program needs. Flexibility to be reassigned to different classrooms or centers may be required based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the weekly development of daily lesson plans, ensuring objectives are clearly communicated to parents, volunteers, and visitors within the classroom.
  • Contribute to creating personalized plans for each child, focusing on goal setting that addresses identified needs and outlines activities to achieve established readiness and outcome goals.
  • Stay informed about regulations and standards relevant to the children in the program, including Head Start Performance Standards and child care licensing requirements.
  • Support the completion of mandated assessments and documentation within the specified timelines.
  • Coordinate and organize meetings, and maintain records of parent-teacher conferences and home visits as necessary.
  • Assume leadership in the classroom during the absence of the teacher.
  • Promote parental engagement in Head Start and other community programs.
  • Facilitate social and emotional growth while providing constructive guidance and discipline.
  • Address any inquiries or concerns regarding special needs.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma/GED and a CDA (Child Development Associate) credential, or enrollment in a CDA program to be completed within two years; alternatively, an associate's or bachelor's degree in any field or enrollment in a program leading to a degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Experience in a daycare setting working with preschool-aged children. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds may be required.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain Basic First Aid, CPR certification, and MAT (Medication Administration Training) within the initial probationary period, with training provided for all medical certifications.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and maintain professionalism with staff and families.
  • Provide responsive customer service that acknowledges the unique needs and cultures of diverse families.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Google Docs, and online meeting platforms.
  • Successful completion of tuberculosis screening and a health examination is required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver's license and insurability to operate agency vehicles are mandatory.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary of $18.00, with potential for a higher rate based on relevant teaching experience.
