Position Summary
The Preschool Education Assistant collaborates closely with the Lead Teacher in a cohesive environment to fulfill the educational goals, policies, and activities aimed at achieving academic objectives and performance benchmarks. This role involves teamwork with classroom personnel and families to implement a curriculum that is relevant and caters to the unique needs of each child and the program as a whole. Flexibility is required as reassignment to different classrooms or centers may occur based on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist in the weekly preparation of daily lesson plans, ensuring objectives are clearly displayed for parents, volunteers, and visitors.
• Help in creating individualized plans for each child, focusing on goal setting based on identified needs and strategies to meet established readiness and outcome goals.
• Stay informed about relevant information regarding the children’s needs, including Head Start Performance Standards and childcare licensing regulations.
• Support the completion of mandated assessments and requirements within specified timelines.
• Organize and document meetings, including parent-teacher conferences and home visits as necessary.
• Take leadership in the classroom during the absence of the teacher.
• Promote parental involvement in Head Start and related agency programs.
• Foster social and emotional growth while providing positive guidance and discipline.
• Address any inquiries regarding special needs with care and attention.
- Demonstrate a commitment to equity and diversity, showing a willingness to learn about systemic barriers affecting economic mobility.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a High School Diploma/GED and a CDA (Child Development Associate) credential, or enrollment in a CDA program to be completed within two years; alternatively, an associate's or bachelor's degree in any field or enrollment in a program leading to a degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children in a daycare environment. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds may be required.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain Basic First Aid, CPR certification, and MAT (Medication Administration Training) during the initial probationary period, with training provided for all medical certifications.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and maintain professionalism.
- Provide responsive customer service that acknowledges the unique needs and cultures of families, including single parents, grandparents, co-parenting situations, LGBTQ families, non-English speakers, teen parents, and those affected by domestic violence.
- Proficient in computer skills, including knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Google Docs, Zoom, and other online meeting platforms.
- Acceptable tuberculosis screening results and an initial health examination are required post-offer and prior to employment.
- A clean driver's license and insurability to operate agency vehicles are mandatory.
