Job Overview

Position Summary
The Preschool Education Assistant collaborates closely with the Lead Teacher in a cohesive environment to fulfill the educational objectives and performance benchmarks set forth by the organization. This role involves teamwork with classroom personnel and families to implement a curriculum that is both relevant and tailored to meet the unique needs of each child and the program as a whole. Flexibility is required as the assistant may be assigned to different classrooms or centers as needed for operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of weekly lesson plans, ensuring that objectives are clearly displayed for parents, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Contribute to the development of personalized plans for each child, focusing on goal setting based on identified needs and strategies to achieve established readiness and outcome goals.
  • Stay informed about the latest information relevant to the children's needs, including compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and childcare regulations.
  • Support the completion of mandated assessments and documentation within the required timelines.
  • Organize and facilitate meetings, as well as document parent-teacher conferences and home visits as necessary.
  • Assume leadership in the classroom during the Lead Teacher's absence.
  • Encourage parental engagement in Head Start and other community programs.
  • Promote social and emotional growth while providing constructive guidance and discipline.
  • Address inquiries and concerns regarding special needs.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma/GED and a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or enrollment in a CDA program to be completed within two years; alternatively, an associate's or bachelor's degree in any field or enrollment in a program leading to a degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Experience in a daycare setting working with preschool-aged children, with the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain certifications in Basic First Aid, CPR, and Medication Administration Training (MAT) within the initial probationary period.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to provide culturally responsive customer service to diverse family structures, including single parents, grandparents, LGBTQ families, and non-English speaking families.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Windows, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Google Docs, and familiarity with online meeting platforms.
  • Successful completion of tuberculosis screening and an initial health examination is required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver's license and insurability to operate agency vehicles are mandatory.
