Role Overview:

The Public Relations Student Assistant for the College of Education will be instrumental in amplifying the institution's visibility in the media landscape, promoting the education sector, and facilitating faculty interactions with journalists covering educational topics. Key Responsibilities:

  • Media Engagement: Collaborate with the University Communications team to connect faculty members with journalists focused on education.
  • Writing and Communication: Demonstrate strong writing and verbal communication skills, assisting in the creation of compelling pitches and effective communication with media representatives.
  • AP Style Proficiency: Utilize knowledge of Associated Press (AP) writing style to maintain professionalism and consistency in all communications.
  • Subject Matter Familiarity: Develop an understanding of the faculty's expertise and ongoing research while staying informed about current educational trends.
  • Promotion and Outreach: Aid in promoting faculty members who can provide insights on educational issues or showcase innovative teaching practices.
  • Social Media Coordination: Work alongside the University Communications and College of Education teams to curate and manage social media content related to faculty expert outreach.

Required Qualifications:

  • Passion for public relations and media outreach.
  • Exceptional writing and oral communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) writing standards.
  • Experience in utilizing social media for professional purposes.
  • Strong interest in K-12 education and current events in the educational landscape.

Employment Conditions:

Candidates must be enrolled as degree-seeking students, maintaining at least half-time enrollment (6 credits for undergraduates and 5 credits for graduates). A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required.
