Senior Cybersecurity Systems Officer

KeenLogic is in search of a Senior Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to enhance our operations at the Drug Enforcement Administration. The ISSO will primarily engage with the Cybersecurity Service Security Team, ensuring that the operational security posture for information systems or programs is effectively upheld. This role acts as the key consultant to the Authorizing Official and Information System Owner regarding all security-related matters pertaining to the information system.

This position is full-time and includes comprehensive benefits akin to those offered by Fortune 500 companies, along with paid time off, a 401k plan, life insurance, and monthly travel reimbursements. The work schedule consists of three days on-site and two days of remote work each week, with core hours from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM, allowing for flexible start times between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Possession of an active Secret clearance
  • Eligibility for Top-Secret clearance
  • A Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Analysis, Science/Technology, Information Management, Information Technology, or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution, or equivalent documented formal training
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in Information SPAA, cybersecurity, system administration, or engineering
  • At least 10 years of experience in roles such as ISSO, security analyst, or security engineer
  • 10 years of program security experience, including familiarity with NIST RMF, audit log reviews, system monitoring, SPAA processes, FISMA requirements, vulnerability and compliance scanning, continuous monitoring activities, security testing and evaluation, and security policies
  • 10 years of experience in relevant sectors such as law enforcement, anti-terrorism, biological sciences, banking, or transportation, necessary for defining or establishing functional or business directions

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessing the security control compliance of assigned information systems with federal requirements and the client's monitoring strategy
  • Managing both emerging and established risks related to the administration and utilization of assigned information systems
  • Collaborating with the client's Cybersecurity Unit to ensure compliance and authorization to operate (ATO) for information systems
  • Overseeing the operation, maintenance, and disposal of systems in line with policies outlined in the approved security authorization package
  • Conducting annual assessments to verify adherence to the client's policies and standards
  • Participating as a member of the Configuration Control Board (CCB) to maintain and document configuration management for cybersecurity-relevant software, hardware, and firmware
  • Ensuring that information system security requirements are addressed throughout all phases of the information systems lifecycle
  • Establishing and reviewing audit trails, ensuring their availability while retaining audit logs according to DOJ and component policies
  • Generating and interpreting necessary documentation to address items detailed within the CSAM
  • Collaborating within a team environment to provide sound technical guidance in adherence to cybersecurity industry best practices and the client's monitoring strategy
  • Analyzing collected data to identify vulnerabilities and potential exploitation, effectively presenting results and guidance to system owners or leadership as required
  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, to track and detail the demands, efforts, and challenges in achieving the goals of the client's information system monitoring strategy
  • Supporting the integration, testing, operations, and maintenance of systems security
  • Developing, updating, and maintaining internal Standard Operating Procedures for all assigned functions
  • Aligning business processes and information technology strategies with the functional environment's conditions and establishing effective performance measures
  • Contributing to the definition and implementation of planning processes and/or systems at the enterprise level, encompassing both strategic and operational activities
  • Providing system operation support and managing hardware and software inventory

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as A+, Network+, Security+, SSCP, and/or CCNA
  • Two years of experience in supporting validated desktop, server, network, and systems administration, including troubleshooting and implementing security requirements in Microsoft Windows 10
  • Familiarity with system monitoring tools like Splunk
  • General knowledge of networking technologies, including TCP/IP ports, protocols, services, switching, and routing
  • Familiarity with security hardening guides and tools (DISA STIGs/SCAP)
  • Willingness to learn innovative technologies and take on new projects to enhance experience
  • Ability to remain composed under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Adaptability to evolving business needs
  • Comfort in working with minimal daily supervision
  • Capability to balance multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Any combination of certifications such as CISM, CISA, CSSP, Microsoft's MCSE, or Cisco's CCNA, CCDA, or CCNP
  • Experience with cloud architectures/platforms and applications
