Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. is seeking a seasoned IT Professional to take on the role of Information System Security Manager (ISSM) within the Algorithms, Modeling and Assessments (AMA) division. The ISSM plays a crucial role in upholding the security integrity of organizational systems and is responsible for the execution of the Risk Management Framework (RMF). This position acts as the primary consultant on all security-related issues concerning the systems managed.

Key Responsibilities of the Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM)

  • Formulating, sustaining, and supervising the system security strategy and protocols for the designated area of responsibility.
  • Guaranteeing adherence to existing cybersecurity regulations, principles, and practices during the design, acquisition, and development of new systems.
  • Collaborating with ISSMs, ISSOs, and ISSEs across various locations to ensure compliance with governmental standards.
  • Demonstrating a robust understanding of the DoD RMF process, with the capability to perform Authorization and Accreditation (A&A) tasks, including the development and maintenance of system Authority to Operate (ATO).
  • Acting as a subject matter expert (SME) on a wide array of cybersecurity topics, representing the cybersecurity organization to external counterparts.
  • Overseeing the evaluation and reduction of system security vulnerabilities and risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conducting regular cybersecurity assessments on information systems in line with DoD Manuals, JSIG, NIST Special Publications, and company policies.
  • Implementing security testing and evaluations to confirm the proper application of security requirements.
  • Ensuring that the team is sufficiently staffed and equipped to excel in their roles.
  • Providing technical assistance to users as necessary.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as assigned.

Position Requirements for Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM)

  • Must be a US Citizen with an Active Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree with relevant experience or a Master's Degree with appropriate experience.
  • Ensure compliance with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), DCSA Assessment and Authorization Process Manual (DAAPM), and other applicable regulations.
  • Hold a DoD IAM Level III Certification (CISSP, CISM, etc.).
  • Familiarity with contemporary methods for assessing, implementing, and disseminating IT security evaluation and remediation tools.
  • Capable of conducting security briefings and training sessions as required.
  • Ability to establish, enforce, and monitor cybersecurity and information security policies and controls.
  • Strong knowledge of computer operating systems (Windows and Linux), software, and hardware.
  • Proficient in configuring laptops, desktops, servers, and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Ability to handle and transport computer equipment, including workstations and servers.

Preferred Qualifications for Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM)

  • Exceptional leadership skills with experience in a collaborative, diverse team environment.
  • Experience in mentoring junior staff members.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Highest level of personal and professional integrity.
  • Knowledgeable in IA Security specifications such as RMF and NIST SP.
  • Familiarity with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) and relevant Department of Defense Directives.
