The Table is a renowned culinary establishment in San Jose's Willow Glen, seeking a highly skilled Sous Chef to join our team.

Job Summary

We are looking for a talented Sous Chef to maintain consistency in food quality and execution, working closely with our Executive Chef, Jim Stump. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of experience in an independent operation as a Lead Line Cook or Sous Chef, with a strong understanding of cooking techniques and the ability to cook eggs in a variety of ways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Food Quality and Execution: Maintain consistency in food quality and execution according to the Executive Chef's standards.
  • Sanitation and Safety: Ensure proper set up and break down of cooking stations, maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, and adhere to all service standards and procedures.
  • Staff Management: Act as lead trainer for kitchen staff, supervise training of new kitchen staff, and ensure proper maintenance of all reach-ins and walk-ins.
  • Menu Planning and Development: Create recipes for all menu items, assist in planning and development of menus and recipes, and ensure the correct preparation and presentation of a consistent level for all food items prepared.
  • Inventory Management: Purchase quality products in line with company budget, manage inventory by keeping inventory reports current, and monitor quality and consistency of menu items and inventory.
  • Labor and Operating Expenses: Control labor and operating expenses through effective scheduling, budgeting, purchasing decisions, and inventory control.
  • Employee Relations: Guide employees according to employee manual, hire and terminate employees in accordance with the employee manual, and select, train, evaluate, lead, motivate, coach, and discipline all employees in the kitchen.
Requirements
  • 1-2 years of experience in an independent operation as a Lead Line Cook or Sous Chef.
  • Strong understanding of cooking techniques.
  • Ability to cook eggs in a variety of ways.
  • Experience in high-volume establishments.
