Job Summary

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Child Protective Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Child Protective Services team, you will be responsible for investigating allegations of child abuse and neglect, conducting comprehensive assessments, and providing support to families in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate reports of alleged child abuse and neglect, and conduct thorough assessments to determine the safety and well-being of children.
  • Develop and implement safety plans to protect children from harm, and provide support to families to address underlying issues.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and stakeholders to ensure the best possible outcomes for children and families.
  • Enter and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of case information.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, with coursework in social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field.
  • At least 12 credits in one of the above fields, with a focus on child development, family dynamics, and social work practices.
  • One year of satisfactory child protective casework experience, or completion of a child protective casework training program.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including children, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with others.
