Job Summary:

The Child Protective Specialist Supervisor will oversee a team of Child Protective Specialists, providing guidance, support, and supervision to ensure the effective investigation and assessment of child abuse and neglect cases. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise a team of Child Protective Specialists, providing guidance and support to ensure the effective investigation and assessment of child abuse and neglect cases.
  • Monitor subordinates' compliance with required face-to-face contacts and visits, ensuring that all case practice requirements are met.
  • Ensure that appropriate assessments are completed and service plans are formulated within required timeframes.
  • Provide ongoing training and guidance to all casework staff in the unit, ensuring that all case practice requirements are met.
  • Assist staff in managing workload and facilitating workflow with other internal and external units.
  • Attend departmental conferences and transmit information and policies to staff.
  • Monitor subordinates' time and leave, and rate/evaluate job performance.
  • Develop and support staff, as well as take appropriate disciplinary measures as needed.
  • Conduct weekly conferences and reviews work with subordinates, documenting conferences and follow-up to ensure required case practices are completed.
  • Document case consultation in records and ACRS+ for all cases.
  • As needed, make field visits for investigation or consultation.
  • Maintain accurate count of subordinates' caseload and unit coverage during vacations.
  • Arrange/conduct case conferences when appropriate, both external and internal.
  • Explain new agency policies and practices to subordinates in a timely manner.
  • Maintain professionalism at all times and exemplify leadership skills of effective communication, modeling, coaching, educating, and support to foster quality supervision to subordinates on a regular basis.
Qualifications:
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in one or a combination of the following fields: social work, psychology, sociology, human services, criminal justice, education (including early childhood), nursing, or cultural anthropology, at least 12 of which must have been in one of these disciplines.
  • 30 semester credits toward a Master's of Social Work degree or toward a graduate degree in a related field.
  • Plus 18 months of child protective casework experience.
