ROLE SUMMARY

The Special Education Support Specialist plays a vital role in the Special Education Program at our educational institution. This position involves collaborating with the ESS Coordinator and/or SPED teacher, as well as general education instructors, to support students with diverse needs. The Specialist will provide essential assistance to individual students or small groups who may have conditions such as autism, developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, or emotional challenges.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage with students with disabilities in various educational settings, including general education and small group environments.
  • Promote positive behavior and reinforce behavioral expectations.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student records and progress reports.
  • Assist in preparing educational materials tailored for individual students or small groups.
  • Provide updates on student progress to the ESS Coordinator/SPED Teacher.
  • Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) as directed by the ESS Coordinator/SPED Teacher.
  • Reinforce and clarify concepts introduced by special education teachers.
  • Assist with administrative tasks to support the ESS Coordinator/SPED Teacher.
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
  • May serve as a designated individual for crisis intervention training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent experience
Certifications: Valid Fingerprint Clearance
Experience: None required
Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Certifications: Successful completion of applicable paraprofessional exam, CPI or TACT-2
Experience: Over 1 year in a related special education role
Computer Skills: None specified

Additional Information:

Compensation and Benefits: The starting salary for this position is $16 per hour, negotiable based on education and experience. BASIS Ed offers a comprehensive benefits package.
