Heavy Equipment Transport Specialist

Under general supervision, the Heavy Equipment Transport Specialist is responsible for the safe operation of commercial vehicles while delivering equipment for Digging & Rigging, Inc. This role involves conducting thorough vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The specialist will assist in the loading and unloading of heavy machinery and equipment, as well as contribute to the setup and dismantling of cranes at various job sites. Additionally, this position may require working extended hours and being exposed to various outdoor weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operates commercial trucks and may include maneuvering forklifts and other mechanical equipment.
  • Strictly adheres to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and state laws to maintain compliance.
  • Conducts inspections of equipment, identifying any issues or defects that may arise.
  • Engages in physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and handling materials.
  • May serve as a rigger, signalman, or assist with crane setup as required.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting hours for routine maintenance of vehicles.
  • Maintains cleanliness and readiness of trucks, trailers, and cranes through daily fueling and washing.
  • Exhibits professional conduct during interactions with customers, the public, and fellow employees.
  • Performs additional related tasks as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules, regulations, and accident prevention measures.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions effectively.
  • Willingness to perform manual labor for extended periods under challenging weather conditions.
  • Capability to lift and carry heavy equipment; must be in good physical condition.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong customer service skills, effective documentation, teamwork, and communication abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Education and Experience

  • Completion of ninth grade is required; a high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years old with two years of verifiable recent experience driving a Class A commercial vehicle.
  • Possession of a current Class A/B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must hold a current Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card.
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered.

Special Requirements

  • Position requires passing a road test.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential.
  • Must successfully pass a background check, drug test, and DOT physical.
