This role at Dairy Farmers of America requires a skilled technician capable of executing a wide range of vehicle maintenance and repair tasks with minimal oversight. The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Specialist collaborates with Fleet Maintenance Technicians (FMT) 3, Lead Fleet Maintenance Technician, Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, or Fleet Manager for more complex diagnostic and repair tasks. Task assignments are managed by shop leadership to foster skill enhancement and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with drivers to accurately identify the root cause of vehicle issues upon task assignment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and facility upkeep, utilizing shop management systems and adhering to all compliance regulations (i.e., safety, DOT).
  • Diagnose intricate mechanical and electronic issues using diagnostic tools as necessary, mentor junior technicians, and perform thorough mechanical inspections and repairs with limited supervision.
  • Ensure equipment operates at optimal performance levels.
  • Complete work orders promptly while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Communicate safety, operational, and equipment concerns to management.
  • Execute prescribed Preventative Maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain accurate and legible documentation in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives with a focus on continuous enhancement.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Follow all required safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
  • Responsible for food safety and quality assurance in the designated area.
  • Report any food safety or quality concerns to management immediately.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy-duty and medium-duty equipment is required.
  • Basic mathematical skills for measurements and calculations.
  • Mechanic Certifications and CDL-A are preferred.
  • Refrigeration license is a plus.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, reach, and crawl throughout the shift.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with heavier loads as necessary.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and software related to engines, ABS, transmissions, etc.
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment with dust, grease, and moderate to high noise levels.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must successfully pass all pre-employment screenings.
