Position Overview:
Under the guidance of a Radiologist and with minimal supervision, the MRI Specialist will conduct a range of procedures using magnetic resonance imaging technology and computer-assisted tomography to visualize internal anatomy across various patient demographics, including neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Duties:
  • Accurately position patients and secure them on the MRI table.
  • Correctly position imaging coils.
  • Select appropriate technical settings and scan protocols from the computer interface.
  • Transmit images to the PACS for interpretation and archival.
Quality Control:
  • Ensure optimal MR images are obtained to assist the radiologist in making accurate diagnoses.
  • Collaborate with the radiologist to evaluate MR images.
  • Monitor equipment indicators to prevent malfunctions.
  • Conduct daily quality control checks of the MRI unit as per manufacturer guidelines and accreditation standards.
Contrast Administration:
  • Evaluate patient sensitivity to contrast materials through interviews and screenings.
  • Assist radiologists in determining the type and volume of IV contrast to be administered.
  • Obtain informed consent from patients.
  • Perform phlebotomy and administer oral and IV contrast materials.
Workspace Maintenance:
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the assigned workspace.
  • Check emergency equipment, medications, and supplies for expiration and completeness.
  • Return used equipment to designated locations.
Data Management:
  • Ensure patient records are complete and signed prior to examinations.
  • Perform various tasks related to PACS, HIS, and RIS systems.
On-call Duties:
Be available for emergency calls as required, responding promptly when needed.

Qualifications:
  • Graduation from a CAHEA or JRCERT accredited program as a Registered Technologist R.T. (R).
  • ARRT, ARMRIT, or CAMRT registration as an MR technologist; or ARRT registration or state license with one year of supervised MRI clinical experience.
  • At least two years of experience as a Registered Technologist R.T. (R) or MRI Technologist (MR).
  • BLS CPR Certification is mandatory.
  • Ability to work independently and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in keyboard and computer skills.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations involving patients with serious conditions.
  • Capability to troubleshoot and resolve minor equipment issues.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to reactions from contrast media.
Patient Interaction:
Must demonstrate current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care for patients across various age groups, including:
  • Neonates (0 to 30 days)
  • Infants (31 days to 12 months)
  • Children (13 months to 12 years)
  • Adolescents (13 to 17 years)
  • Adults (18 to 65 years)
  • Geriatrics (66+ years)
Must understand growth and development principles across the lifespan and be able to assess and interpret data reflective of each patient's needs.

Physical Requirements:
Medium-Heavy Work – Ability to lift up to 75 pounds infrequently and carry up to 35 pounds while walking. Pushing or pulling may involve weights exceeding 115 pounds occasionally.

Working Environment:

  2. Working with strong magnetic fields and radio frequencies.
  3. Contact with high voltage electrical equipment.
  4. Interaction with moving equipment.
  5. High-stress environment during peak demand for MRI services.
Reporting Structure:
Reports directly to the Supervisor of Clinical Imaging.
