Position Overview:
This role is designed to oversee critical care units, including the Intensive Care Unit, Progressive Care Unit, Telemetry Unit, and Advanced Cardiac Care Unit. The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will collaborate with nursing staff, hospitalists, and various medical disciplines to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Utilizing evidence-based practices, the CNS will enhance care quality, operational efficiency, and patient satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
- Work on a night shift schedule from 11 PM to 7 AM, with some flexibility in hours.
- A Master’s degree is mandatory; candidates currently enrolled in a graduate program may be considered.
- A valid RN license from Maryland or a compact state equivalent is required.
- A minimum of five years of experience in Critical Care or Telemetry is essential.

Job Summary:
The Clinical Specialist is a master's-prepared nurse who provides expert knowledge and leadership in patient care for designated patient populations. This role involves collaboration with management and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safety, quality, and professional development within nursing. Internal candidates in a master's program will hold the title of "Clinical Specialist" while performing duties akin to those of a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain advanced clinical knowledge and skills relevant to the patient population, including age-specific competencies.
  • Engage in direct patient and family interactions, performing comprehensive assessments and developing care plans.
  • Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families, assisting them in healthcare decisions.
  • Act as a resource for nursing and medical staff, facilitating discussions on patient management and treatment options.
  • Mentor nursing staff in caring for patients with complex needs.
  • Collaborate with nursing leaders to enhance clinical practices and develop staff expertise.
  • Promote the establishment and implementation of care standards.
  • Utilize research methodologies to inform clinical practice and encourage evidence-based approaches among nursing staff.
  • Lead initiatives for process improvement and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Serve as a role model for organizational change and critical thinking in patient care.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and judgment capabilities in patient care.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven leadership and organizational skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to engage with patients, leadership, and care teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with healthcare management philosophies.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Eligible for or licensed to practice in Maryland.
  • Currently enrolled in a Master's Degree program in Advanced Practice Nursing or a related field.
  • National certification in the specialty area within one year of hire.
  • Five years of nursing experience, including two years in a specialty area.
  • Experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist is preferred.

Physical Demands:
This position requires medium to heavy work, including lifting and carrying patients and equipment. The role may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials.
