Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fixed Asset Accountant to join our team at Metropolitan State University of Denver. This role is responsible for monitoring, recording, tracking, depreciating, and safeguarding the University's fixed assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Propose University policy regarding fixed asset procurement and tracking.
  • Review and reconcile all fixed asset purchases using Workday, Microsoft Access, and Excel.
  • Conduct annual inventory and analyze lease agreements to determine operating leases vs. capital leases.
  • Ensure compliance with all debt obligations and review, reconcile, and process elimination entries for the fixed asset clearing account.
  • Develop policies and procedures governing the acquisition of assets using fiscal rules, GASB, GAAP, and knowledge of the Banner Finance and Workday Systems.
  • Draw funds from the State for State-funded capital projects.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Review and revise the annual inventory and send it to University administrators.
  • Propose policies that govern the plant fund and depreciation of assets.
  • Record all necessary entries to the fixed assets system and general ledger for the plant funds.
  • Make determinations of operating lease vs. capital lease and calculate present values as well as track all leases according to GASB 87 and related standards.
  • Make determinations of whether subscription payments for software fall under GASB 96 and record and track all Subscription-based information technology assets in the Workday system.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
  • Experience using an integrated financial system similar to Workday.
  • Professional accounting experience.
  • Hands-on experience performing reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical experience working with the Workday Asset module or comparable system.
  • Experience in Higher Education accounting.
  • Experience with multi-tasking and problem-solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Fixed Assets experience.
