About the Team

OpenAI's Finance organization is responsible for ensuring the company's financial stability and growth. The Billing and Collection team plays a critical role in this process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of billing and collections. This team provides critical support to the broader revenue function and the overall organization.

About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned leader to build and scale our Billing and Collection organization. As a key member of the Finance team, you will report directly to the Head of Revenue Accounting and Operations. In this role, you will be responsible for setting and implementing the strategic direction of your team. You will collaborate with stakeholders in accounting, applied, go-to-market, legal, and other teams to drive hyper-scale transformation in systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute on strategic initiatives for the Billing and Collections team, driving efficiency, accuracy, and scalability in our processes through continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Lead and grow a high-performing team, including driving organizational design, development tracks, and vendor management. Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and empathy.
  • Build robust systems and processes that enable us to scale with our business and customers.
  • Leverage data and analytics to identify root causes of issues, uncover opportunities for process improvements, and develop comprehensive action plans to address them.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams across OpenAI to identify challenges and opportunities, drive solutions, and shape the overall experience for OpenAI customers.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in leading Billing, Collections, and Operations teams, ideally in tech startups with a mix of B2C and B2B products and a strong understanding of Quote to Cash.
  • Operational knowledge of ASC 606.
  • A proven track record of building and developing high-performing teams, including managing offshore excellence centers.
  • Experience leading large-scale strategic and operational initiatives, and building strong relationships with cross-functional teams.
  • High horsepower and ownership, showing a proactive approach to picking up new knowledge and tackling tasks to ensure your team's success.
  • Comfortable using data-driven insights to design and implement process improvements.
