Position Overview:

As a Mechanical Quality Assurance Specialist at FM Industries, you will be responsible for conducting meticulous inspections of machined components and incoming materials to ensure adherence to established specifications. Your role will involve utilizing calibrated measuring instruments and performing visual assessments to guarantee compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize fundamental blueprint interpretation and basic mathematical skills (including Trigonometry).
  • Conduct initial inspections of parts produced in manufacturing workstations.
  • Gather measurement data for First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation.
  • Compile and provide necessary information for critical Final Inspection Reports (FIRs).
  • Complete customer-required documentation for parts, ensuring accurate data submission.
  • Perform ongoing inspections of parts during the manufacturing process.
  • Review process documentation to confirm that preceding operations are completed and verified.
  • Inspect both in-house and outsourced production components.
  • Document discrepancies and complete Discrepant Material Report (DMR) forms for non-conforming parts.
  • Assess incoming materials for compliance with specifications.
  • Verify outgoing materials for packaging and adherence to requirements.
  • Execute surface plate setups and comparator measurements.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports as required.
  • Report any safety or process control issues to the Inspection Team Leader or Plant Quality Manager.
  • Adhere to all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as company policies.

Additional Duties:

  • Perform related tasks as assigned.
  • Basic alignment and manual measurements using CMM.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in in-process and final inspection, preferably within machining, automotive, or aerospace sectors.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency in CMM operation is essential.
  • Ability to effectively utilize and interpret standard measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Experience in visual inspection for cosmetic defects is required.
  • Supervisory experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with CMM programming is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Capability to interact professionally with colleagues and clients.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions accurately.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Near vision acuity is required for reading gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and shades for finish inspections.
  • Must be able to hear and comprehend spoken instructions and warning signals.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to high noise levels from machinery.
  • Potential physical hazards from moving equipment.
