About the Role

The Power Plant Operator is a critical member of the Eagle Creek Renewable Energy team, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our hydroelectric power plant. As a Power Plant Operator, you will play a key role in maximizing the reliability and efficiency of our electrical generating system, while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct daily plant and intake inspections to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Start and stop generating units and auxiliary equipment per established procedures, ensuring smooth and efficient operation.
  • Conduct safety inspections and monitor security systems, keeping accurate logs and reports to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Operate heavy equipment and hand tools, including chain saws, to perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Work on a rotating schedule to cover weekend duty and holidays, ensuring 24/7 coverage of the plant.
  • Assist in developing plant safety procedures and JSA procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Respond to calls at all hours of the day to react to emergent plant issues, demonstrating a commitment to safety and reliability.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors in the performance of their activities, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in any safety programs developed by the company, demonstrating a commitment to a safe working environment.
Requirements
  • At least two years of related experience in a power plant or industrial setting, with a strong understanding of instrumentation and control systems.
  • An unwavering commitment to safety, both for Eagle Creek Renewable Energy employees and contractors, and the public in general.
  • Instrumentation and control system experience, including troubleshooting of PLC-based control systems and general calibration of instrumentation devices.
  • Ability to communicate and report all downtime-related events in a timely manner to the regional manager.
  • Experience with basic industrial maintenance techniques, including the operation of hand and power tools.
  • The ability to maintain a valid driver's license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, with a vocational certificate or degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, Outlook, etc.) for use in business communication.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform manual tasks, including the operation of hand and power tools, and the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to bend and maneuver in tight, cramped quarters, and work in hot, noisy, and dark environments, often alone and isolated.
  • Comfortability working at heights and around water, and ability to work with and wear respiratory protection.
  • Ability to read and identify labels, gauges, dials, and indicators typically encountered in performing job duties.
  • Possess clear and effective verbal communication in all circumstances, including emergency situations and giving/receiving instructions over a radio.
