Role Overview:
As the Chief Nursing Executive, you will oversee and manage the Nursing and Patient Care Services to ensure that we meet the highest standards of medical and nursing care. You will establish and implement the nursing framework, assess administrative and clinical nursing practices within the Consortium, and initiate necessary changes. Your role will involve representing nursing services in discussions with other hospital departments and external organizations to facilitate coordination, address challenges, and disseminate information.

Strategic Leadership:
You will develop a strategic nursing plan that aligns with the organization's current and future priorities. This includes integrating evidence-based practices and research findings into nursing policies and procedures. You will also create and execute initiatives aimed at enhancing the clinical, educational, and leadership capabilities of nursing staff. Collaboration with other management and supervisory personnel will be essential to address nursing program requirements and administrative concerns.

Nursing Operations Management:
In this role, you will provide effective nursing leadership across multiple facilities, including Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital and Wrangell Medical Center. You will oversee the staffing plan for nursing services, ensuring compliance with regulatory and hospital policies regarding nurse staffing and clinical care. Additionally, you will guide subordinate directors and managers in the recruitment, training, and development of nursing staff, as well as in performance evaluations and disciplinary actions, working closely with Human Resources as needed.

Financial Oversight:
You will direct the preparation and management of nursing service budgets and capital requests, assessing staffing, equipment, and supply needs. Your responsibilities will include preparing justifications and cost-benefit analyses, reviewing expenditures, and overseeing the procurement of necessary supplies and equipment.

Regulatory Compliance:
Maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and accreditation standards is a critical aspect of this role. You will monitor operations and implement changes as required, collaborating with the Director of Performance Improvement to ensure adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements. You will also oversee the preparation and maintenance of nursing records, reports, and statistics in line with administrative policies and The Joint Commission standards.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a minimum of 10 years of clinical nursing experience, including at least 5 years in progressive nursing leadership roles. A Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Management, or Public Administration is preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED.
Licensure/Certification:
  • Possession of a current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or eligibility to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification must be current within 1 month of hire.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Comprehensive understanding of healthcare program requirements.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards set by Joint Commission/DNV, CMA, Board of Nursing, and state and federal agencies.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial management processes.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to manage patient interactions effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating nursing operations.
  • Ability to lead and mentor staff while fostering collaborative relationships with healthcare team members.
  • Capability to articulate a clear nursing vision and develop strategies that align with SEARHC's mission and objectives.
Additional Information:
  • Decisions made in this role will be based on scientific reasoning and analytical skills, with a focus on patient and family welfare.
  • Ability to function independently and take responsibility for decisions made.
  • Understanding of when to escalate issues to hospital administration.
