Job Description

Purchasing Assistant

Winston Client is a prominent player in the food packaging sector, boasting over three decades of experience. As part of a larger organization, they cater to a diverse clientele of more than 20,000 customers globally. They are currently in search of a Purchasing Assistant to enhance their operational efficiency.

This role is designed for a dedicated individual who will play a vital part in the purchasing and procurement processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and nurture productive relationships with team members in the purchasing department to facilitate order processing for inventory and various projects.
  • Assist in the evaluation of requisitions alongside Buyers for materials within the company’s enterprise resource planning system; assess each item for quantity, specifications, and delivery needs; explore and develop potential sources; issue requests for quotations for items not covered by existing agreements.
  • Proactively manage purchasing documentation, ensuring accurate records and timely updates of purchasing data (pricing, lead times, catalog, min/max) within the ERP system.
  • Support the identification of suppliers based on quality, pricing, and delivery timelines; engage with potential vendors to obtain quotes under favorable terms as discussed with Buyers.
  • Assist in generating order reports and issuing purchase orders, demonstrating a fundamental understanding of allocations, pricing, lead times, and inventory needs.
  • Evaluate quotations to determine the best sourcing options, applying existing arrangements or approved procedures in collaboration with Buyers.
  • Execute straightforward RFQs based on supplier economic manufacturing quantities and ProMach manufacturing order quantities.
  • Process orders for commodity items related to indirect goods and catalog items.
  • Conduct weekly follow-ups on outstanding orders to ensure vendor adherence to purchase terms and timely delivery.
  • Support data analysis initiatives to aid in monitoring Purchasing Key Performance Indicators.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by the Purchasing Manager.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, with new graduates encouraged to apply.
  • 1-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Creative and effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), with the capability to generate and analyze reports using various Excel tools.
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting is considered a significant advantage for this position.

Compensation:

$50K - $52K, likely temp-to-perm.
