Position Overview

The Medical Laboratory Scientist Technical Specialist for Point of Care Testing (MLS TS) plays a crucial role in the execution of both waived and non-waived testing as defined by regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Clinical Manager and Laboratory Director, the MLS Technical Specialist is accountable for all Point of Care (POC) activities across various healthcare settings. This role requires a collaborative approach with nursing staff, ambulatory services, and other leaders in testing environments.

Primary Duties Include:

  1. Overseeing daily operations of point of care testing, ensuring compliance with analytical performance standards.
  2. Standardizing policies and procedures across all POC testing locations, ensuring alignment with current practices.
  3. Providing training and competency assessments for testing personnel in collaboration with nursing educators.
  4. Managing proficiency testing programs, ensuring compliance and documentation are maintained.
  5. Conducting evaluations of methods and instruments, including validation and troubleshooting.
  6. Implementing information system solutions for effective management of POC testing data.
  7. Ensuring maintenance and quality control measures are consistently documented and adhered to.
  8. Participating in audits and ensuring readiness for regulatory surveys.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field from an accredited institution.
  2. ASCP certification.
  3. A minimum of five years of clinical laboratory experience.

This position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and compliance within the laboratory environment, ensuring that all testing practices meet the rigorous standards set by accrediting bodies.
