Position Overview

The Medical Laboratory Scientist Technical Specialist for Point of Care Testing (MLS TS) plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of laboratory testing as defined by regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

As a Testing Personnel, the MLS TS is authorized to perform both waived and non-waived tests under the supervision of the Clinical Manager and Laboratory Director. Responsibilities include:

  1. Oversight of Testing Operations: Manage daily activities related to point of care testing across various healthcare settings, ensuring compliance with quality assurance protocols and performance standards.
  2. Standardization of Procedures: Develop and revise policies and procedures to align with current practices, ensuring timely reviews and approvals.
  3. Training and Competency Assessment: Collaborate with nursing and educational staff to provide comprehensive training and ongoing education for testing personnel.
  4. Proficiency Testing Management: Oversee proficiency testing programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining accurate documentation.
  5. Instrument Evaluation: Validate and troubleshoot new instruments and methods, ensuring proper functionality and compliance with established standards.
  6. Quality Control Monitoring: Review quality control records, implement corrective actions as necessary, and maintain knowledge of manufacturers' recommendations.
  7. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all testing locations meet the standards set by accrediting agencies.
  8. Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional growth through seminars and workshops to stay updated on industry trends.
Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
  • ASCP certification.
  • A minimum of five years of clinical laboratory experience.
