POSITION SUMMARY
As a key member of the healthcare team, the Respiratory Care Specialist applies scientific principles to identify, prevent, and manage pulmonary and cardiopulmonary disorders. This role involves the coordination and delivery of medical gases, as well as the administration of aerosolized medications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to maintain both natural and artificial airways.
  • Engages in cardiopulmonary resuscitation as part of a collaborative code team.
  • Conducts pulmonary function tests, including spirometry, lung volumes, and diffusing capacity assessments.
  • Performs exercise oximetry testing to evaluate patient respiratory function.
  • Educates patients and families on respiratory care procedures and related health issues.
  • Provides consultation and training on respiratory matters to other healthcare providers as necessary.
  • Ensures routine maintenance, daily calibration, and quality control of complex pulmonary function testing equipment.
  • Documents all relevant patient care information, treatments administered, and responses in the electronic medical record.
  • Maintains departmental records, including competencies and certifications.
  • Completes additional duties as assigned by the Director of the Respiratory Care Department.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current certifications: BLS, PALS, NRP, and ACLS.
  • NIH certification.
  • Certified Principal Investigator (CPI) Certification.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Proficient technical skills.
  • Passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.
  • Minimum of two years of recent experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapist program.
  • Active and unencumbered Respiratory Therapist license in Massachusetts.
  • One year of experience with Epic systems.
  • Current license from the state Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the N.B.R.C.

REQUIREMENTS
  • COVID vaccination, including two shots and a booster.
