Role Overview: As a Senior Flight Test Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the advancement and field evaluation of Anduril's Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Your responsibilities will include preparing aircraft for operational testing, executing flight evaluations as the lead pilot, and collaborating closely with the test engineering team throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in design assessments and collaborative working groups related to the Fury developmental aircraft system.
  • Contribute to the formulation of system testing protocols and participate in both laboratory and open-air testing environments.
  • Act as a key member of the Test and Evaluation team, interfacing regularly with the T&E lead, Technical Director, Chief Test Pilot, Lead Flight Test Engineer, and client representatives.
  • Ensure the safe operation of aircraft and provide advisory input during safety reviews, design evaluations, and airworthiness assessments.
  • Conduct ground and flight tests to verify compliance with specifications, validate airworthiness, and assess operational suitability.
  • Collaborate with Flight Test Engineers and Discipline Engineers to establish safe and efficient testing procedures, evaluate system safety, and confirm functional design integrity.
  • Participate in flight operations and guide the direction of the flight test program.
  • Work alongside fellow test pilots to finalize cockpit configurations, develop flight procedures, and establish emergency protocols.
  • Review test procedures, flight plans, and operational limitations in preparation for testing.
  • Attend design and configuration control meetings, providing insights to address change requests and determine testing priorities.
  • Develop innovative solutions to technical challenges and foster a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Required Qualifications:

  • Over 10 years of experience in flight test engineering.
  • A minimum of 1,000 hours as Pilot-in-Command or 500 hours in unmanned aircraft.
  • Experience must include 200 hours of Pilot-in-Command time during engineering flight tests and 10 hours during experimental flight tests.
  • Commercial pilot license with Instrument rating.
  • Possession of an FAA Class 2 Medical certificate, renewed annually.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary for off-site aircraft evaluations.
  • Strong analytical skills to quickly grasp new concepts and apply them effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly in technical contexts.
  • Proficient in technical documentation and flight manual authoring.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as MATLAB, JIRA, DOORS, MS Office, CATIA, and 3DX.
  • Able to work autonomously and collaboratively, managing complex tasks efficiently.
  • Flexibility to work extended and irregular hours.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS/SCI security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a U.S. military test pilot school or equivalent qualifications.
  • 15+ years of experience as a test pilot with developmental aircraft.
  • 2,000 hours as Pilot-in-Command or 500 hours in unmanned aircraft.
  • ATP certificate with Class 1 medical.
  • Advanced degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Experience with high-performance turbine aircraft, particularly tactical military models.
  • Prior experience as a Test Pilot on manned or large UAS aircraft.
  • First flight experience on developmental manned or large UAS aircraft.
  • Certified Flight Instructor / Instrument rating.
