Role Overview
The Test Engineering team is engaged across a diverse range of products, including Altius, Lattice, Ghost UAS, Sentry Tower, cUAS, and other platforms. Our responsibilities encompass comprehensive system-level development testing, new aircraft design validation, sub-component qualification, and more. This position will initially emphasize field testing and the development of innovative payloads and software solutions aimed at facilitating future operations involving extensive swarms of coordinated systems, both manned and unmanned.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Flight Test Engineer, you will work with minimal oversight to devise and implement various strategies to meet testing and evaluation objectives, guiding and executing test activities effectively.
This role will concentrate on new aircraft development, particularly in areas such as electronics, avionics, propulsion systems, flight dynamics, rugged design, and scalable quality assurance.
Test responsibilities will include:
- System and sub-system level testing and evaluation of hardware and software.
- Leading or supporting test planning, defining success metrics, conducting tests (both ground and flight), analyzing performance, and driving improvements in processes and development.
Qualifications
To qualify, candidates should possess:
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant technical field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in flight test engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of the National Airspace System and UAS operational regulations.
- Expertise in both manned and unmanned rotorcraft, including combustion, electric, and hybrid powertrains.
- Familiarity with EO/IR/Lidar sensor payloads and the complexities involved in planning and executing tests on maneuverable rotorcraft.
- Understanding of fly-by-wire control systems, flight dynamics, and handling characteristics of rotorcraft, with a focus on the development and testing of new systems.
Skills and Abilities
Candidates must demonstrate:
- A comprehensive understanding of engineering principles, codes, and theories, with a proven ability to apply these concepts broadly.
- Quick comprehension of new concepts and the ability to apply them accurately.
- Strong organizational, scheduling, and coordination skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Willingness to work extended hours and travel as necessary.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Desirable attributes include:
- Strong software and documentation skills, with familiarity in Linux-based operating systems.
- Compliance with Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 107 regarding Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems.
- Current certification as a Commercial or Private Helicopter Pilot under Part 61.
