About the Role

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geologist to support our Geo-Civil projects from our San Diego, California office. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for maintaining long-term relationships with clients in civil infrastructure and mining, providing technical expertise, and supporting business development pursuits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Client Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing technical expertise and support to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Project Planning and Execution: Plan, budget, and execute surface and subsurface field geologic and geotechnical exploration, managing support staff as needed.
  • Geologic Field Reconnaissance: Conduct geologic field reconnaissance and mapping to identify geologic hazards and site characterization.
  • Geotechnical Support: Provide support on the design and installation of groundwater wells and geotechnical instrumentation.
  • Data Interpretation: Interpret geologic, geochemical, and geophysical data, preparing geotechnical and geologic reports.
  • Geologic Modeling: Develop geologic models for complex geologic site conditions.
  • Research and Innovation: Conduct geologic research and develop innovative solutions to advance projects using the latest technologies.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Liaise with regulatory agencies on behalf of clients, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with geotechnical and structural engineers to develop robust dam designs, and prepare project documentation, including reports, project communications, and design drawings.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or Geological Engineering, with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalence of experience and/or education.
  • Professional Licensure: Professional licensure (PG/CEG/PE) is required.
  • Travel and Work Environment: Valid US driver's license required. Willingness to travel regularly for domestic and international projects, with the ability to work in physically demanding field conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Education: Master's degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or Geological Engineering.
  • Experience and Skills: 10+ years of experience as a Geologist/Engineering Geologist, including investigations, complex subsurface investigations, soil and rock core drilling, installation of piezometers and geotechnical instrumentation, and experience with geotechnical projects, including dams, mine tailings dams, and water storage dams.
  • Technical Skills: Analytical skills and knowledge of geological and geotechnical software, such as RocScience, Geo-Slope, gINT, etc.
