Certified Personal Trainer

Job Overview:

Assist a varied clientele in achieving their individual fitness and health objectives by creating and overseeing tailored workout regimens that cater to their specific requirements.

Perform fitness evaluations to monitor client advancement and enhance self-confidence. Offer ongoing education to equip clients with the necessary tools for success in reaching their aspirations. Advocate for healthy living both inside and outside the gym through personalized and holistic engagement.

Work Environment: Commonwealth of Virginia

Reporting To: Fitness Coordinator

Compensation: $17.00 per hour

Required Certifications:

  • Nationally recognized Personal Training Certification from organizations such as NSCA, ACSM, ACE, NASM, or equivalent.
  • Current certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer with First Aid from the American Red Cross (or equivalent) OR the willingness to obtain upon hiring
Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a background check
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of safety protocols concerning various exercise equipment including free weights, selectorized weights, plate-loaded, and cardiovascular machines
  • Outstanding customer service, communication, and decision-making abilities
  • Understanding of adult instruction principles and applications
  • Dependable, self-driven, and capable of inspiring others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong enthusiasm for fitness and wellness
Key Responsibilities:

  • Arrive early and ready for each session
  • Conduct fitness assessments and gather other measurement data
  • Develop and implement workout plans for individual clients or small groups
  • Ensure safety by instructing clients on proper form and equipment usage
  • Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the organization
Continued Responsibilities:

  • Attend all required training sessions and meetings
  • Stay informed and current on new exercise techniques and research
  • Respond to emergencies, including medical or facility-related issues
  • Maintain a professional, enthusiastic, and approachable demeanor
  • Report any facility and safety equipment concerns
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Fitness & Wellness Professional Staff
Employment Eligibility

  • Trainers must be available to work at designated facilities
  • Trainers must be available for occasional weekend shifts
  • Trainers must be available for early morning shifts (before 8am)
  • Maintain a current Personal Training Certification from a nationally accredited organization
  • Maintain a current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer with First Aid certification (certifications are provided at no additional cost)
  • Trainers are expected to attend staff meetings unless prior permission is granted for absence (notification of a conflict must be provided at least 1 week in advance)
  • Trainers are required to maintain a minimum of 4 active clients to retain employment.
