We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Mechanic Senior to join our team at the University of Maryland. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing skilled tasks in building construction and maintenance, requiring the application of general knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques, materials, tools, small machinery, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and supervise maintenance staff in general construction, light assembly, housekeeping, preventive maintenance, and moderately thorough cleaning of parking garages and parking lots.
- Notify Miss Utility before digging for projects and renovations.
- Remove and install signs, poles, bollards, and wheel stops.
- Stripe parking stall lines, numbers, and stencils, paint poles, and any other painting/marking as instructed.
- Patch potholes and light concrete repairs.
- Lead the crew in posting temporary signage during parking lot closures or special events.
- Perform general and routine maintenance of department fleet vehicles, power tools, and all machinery used for our purposes.
- Organize and maintain an inventory and ensure a minimal stock of supplies.
- Four years of related work experience, with three years in the trade area where assigned.
- General knowledge of and skill in a variety of semi-skilled building construction or maintenance and repair practices and techniques used in the trade areas where assigned.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, communicate effectively, and prepare estimates of time and materials required for assigned work.
- Computer skills using Google docs and Gmail.
- Two-way radio communication.
- Supervisory or group lead experience.
This is a full-time position with a shift schedule of 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM. Please note that shift hours may be adjusted based on operational needs.
This position requires the ability to work in all weather conditions, lift 80 lbs, and complete physical projects. Mandatory overtime may be required.
