Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the University of Maryland. As a key member of our Facilities Management department, you will be responsible for performing utility and building mechanical system and equipment infrastructure assessments, overseeing the design and replacement/upgrade of mechanical equipment and systems, and providing project management responsibilities for mechanical system upgrade efforts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform utility and building mechanical system and equipment infrastructure assessments
  • Oversee the design and replacement/upgrade of mechanical equipment and systems
  • Provide project management responsibilities for mechanical system upgrade efforts
  • Evaluate the operation of the central plants and utility systems and make suggestions for improvements
  • Plan and coordinate utility outages in support of maintenance & repair and act as primary liaison with campus projects that interact with existing utilities and/or incorporate new utilities
  • Provide analysis, design and construction support for the Energy Management & Utilities team, Engineering & Energy (E&E) unit, other FM units and independent college projects and construction activities as they affect campus mechanical utilities
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar related technology field
  • Four (4) - Seven (7) years of experience including design, commissioning, testing and/or operation and maintenance of mechanical infrastructure
  • Experience should be in performing similar duties with complex mechanical utility central plant systems
  • Position requires at least three (3) years' experience in the design and operating evaluation of Central Plant and infrastructure mechanical systems, including chillers, boilers, pumps, turbines, chilled and heating water, steam, domestic water and specialty plumbing systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer
  • Knowledge and use of hydraulic evaluation software, such as Termis or Pipeflo
  • Plant or Utility system operation and maintenance
