Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide psychiatric and mental health services to inmates, utilizing your expertise to meet a variety of physical and mental health care needs.

Responsibilities
  • Support and provide direction for the psychiatric and behavioral health care delivery system, coordinating with other functions within the institution.
  • Perform physical examinations as required, and provide emergency care in critical conditions.
  • Document patient information in accordance with unit policies and procedures, utilizing the SOAP charting format.
  • Monitor and ensure the appropriate utilization of psychotropic medications, and initiate requests for commonly performed initial laboratory studies.
  • Identify normal and abnormal findings on history, physical examination, and commonly performed laboratory studies, and dispense, prescribe, and administer medications as specified in the drug formulary protocol for Nurse Practitioners and as approved by the appropriate regulatory boards.
  • Provide counseling and instruction regarding common patient problems, and ensure compliance with ACA/NCCHC standards, as appropriate, and State and correctional system regulations policies and procedures.
  • Meet regularly with the site mental health staff to ensure appropriate provision of services, and provide training for behavioral health and institutional staff on mental health issues as requested.
  • Provide consultation services to institutional staff for mental health issues as requested, and may be required to provide clinical supervision as appropriate.
  • Follow and enforce security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications, and adhere to and enforce safety and security policies, participating in disaster drills.
  • Attend mandatory and optional in-service training, and maintain open lines of communication via attendance at staff meetings when possible.
  • Assist in legal proceedings as needed.
Requirements
  • Current New Hampshire Nurse Practitioner license required.
  • Current New Hampshire Controlled Substance license required.
  • Current DEA required.
  • 2 years clinical experience preferred, with correctional healthcare experience a plus.
  • Certification from an accredited college/university as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
