This role is situated within the Regional Clinical Laboratory, focusing on the collection and preparation of phlebotomy samples from individuals receiving care.

Responsibilities encompass general tasks such as receiving and processing specimens for various laboratory departments. You will utilize the Laboratory Information System to log orders and manage specimen entries while ensuring the availability of necessary supplies.

Key Responsibilities:
- Fulfill supply requests and prepare specimens for referral.
- Deliver exceptional customer service across all accounts and assist in managing workflow.
- Provide support by answering and directing phone inquiries as necessary.
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned, including training new staff members.
- Operate under general supervision, exercising initiative and independent judgment as required.
- Be prepared to work weekends and holidays to ensure departmental coverage.

Core Job Functions:

- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to a designated shift schedule, which may include rotating shifts or overtime as needed.

- Collaborate daily with the phlebotomy team to collect samples from patients.

- Process specimens for analysis in various laboratory sections, following established protocols and standards.


- Log and manage specimen entries using the Laboratory Information System.

- Prepare referral specimens, ensuring compliance with stability and collection requirements.

- Answer and transfer phone calls to provide customer service as needed.

- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment according to established procedures, including preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.

- Assist in inventory management, notifying supervisors when supplies need replenishing.

- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring that supplies are adequately stocked and within expiration dates.

- Demonstrate respect and consideration in interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues, fostering a respectful workplace culture.
- Participate in training and mentoring of students and new employees in phlebotomy and specimen processing.

- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned, including participation in disaster response and continuity of operations efforts, which may require flexible scheduling.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of laboratory safety protocols and sample handling techniques.

- Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques and specimen collection.

- Familiarity with medical terminology and common laboratory tests.

- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.

- Competence in customer service protocols, including effective communication with clients.

- Capacity to adhere to standard operating procedures accurately.

- Skill in obtaining blood samples using various venipuncture methods.

- Proficiency with laboratory software, including the Laboratory Information System.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
