Position OverviewThe Laboratory R&D Geoscientist will collaborate with the Laboratory R&D Lead to expand the rock mechanics experimental program at Eden GeoPower.
This role requires expertise in advanced geotechnical testing techniques and protocols, experience with experimental design and apparatus development, and a curiosity-driven mindset.
You will work with a diverse team of engineers and scientists, conduct novel geomechanical tests, support ongoing research programs, and contribute to the company's intellectual property.
Duties and Responsibilities- Develop new experimental apparatuses and testing protocols.
- Conduct geomechanics experiments, including core flooding investigations, reactive transport, and proppant and rock strength/fracturing tests using High-Pressure High-Temperature (HPHT) Triaxial cells.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is functioning, calibrated, and fit for purpose.
- Develop the Lab Safety Protocol and other Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) duties.
- Conduct fundamental and advanced research to support field investigations and test new technologies before deployment.
- Train new technicians in the R&D laboratory.
- Share knowledge and challenges to benefit the team.
- Prepare and present project updates, technical presentations, and reports for clients.
- Prepare governmental reports, funding proposals, research papers, presentations, and other documents.
- Master's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience, including research work completed during a Master's or PhD degree.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to make technically sound recommendations with incomplete information.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
- Eligibility to work in the US without immediate sponsorship.
- PhD in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of laboratory experience, including research work completed during a Master's or PhD degree.
- Experience with HPHT triaxial cells conducting geo-mechanical tests, and/or reactive transport, core flooding, or permeability investigations.
- Microfluidics and geochemical skills are a bonus.
- Familiarity with equipment design, fabrication, and troubleshooting.
- Expertise with CAD/CAM is highly desirable.
- Experience with data acquisition and control systems (hardware and software).
- Good/Advanced programming skills in Matlab/Python.
