Work Schedule:
Full-Time Shift: Monday to Friday, from 2 PM to 10:30 PM, with rotating weekends.

Winter Park Memorial Hospital has been a cornerstone of health and wellness in the community for over 50 years. Established in 1951, it has evolved into a 307-bed acute care facility, continuously expanding to meet the needs of the community. Our services include a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, cancer care, and advanced surgical and rehabilitation services.

Role Overview:
The Medical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests in designated areas, as per licensure and certification. This role involves analytical testing of blood and other biological specimens, requiring a solid foundation of theoretical and practical knowledge. Responsibilities may include pre-analytical and post-analytical processes, and on-call hours may be necessary. Adherence to laboratory policies and quality control practices is essential, as is a commitment to outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-analytical tasks related to laboratory testing, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and specimen processing.
  • Perform all required tests and analytical procedures efficiently and accurately, in compliance with established standards.
  • Handle post-analytical activities, ensuring accurate reporting of results and providing support for laboratory testing across all age groups.
  • Assist in training and orienting new staff and students, documenting their progress as needed.
  • Guide technicians and support staff, addressing customer service issues and facilitating workflow.
  • Follow safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to infection control policies.
  • Engage in performance improvement initiatives within the laboratory and hospital settings.
  • Participate in evaluating new laboratory techniques and assist with data collection for special projects.
  • Assess competencies in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong technical skills related to laboratory testing and procedures.
  • Commitment to compliance with all relevant regulations and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and manage shifting priorities.
  • Proficiency in educating and training staff in laboratory environments.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory sciences, or related fields.
  • Two years of relevant technical experience.

Licensure and Certification:
  • Certification from recognized bodies such as American Medical Technologists or American Society for Clinical Pathology.
  • State licensure as applicable.
