Role Summary and Qualifications

Nuclear Medicine Technologists are responsible for preparing and administering radioactive pharmaceuticals to patients for diagnostic imaging or therapeutic purposes. They provide essential technical support to physicians and other healthcare professionals in patient diagnosis, care, and treatment, as well as in research involving radioactive drugs.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Communicating medical procedures to patients and addressing their inquiries.
  • Adhering to safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure for both patients and staff.
  • Preparing and administering radioactive medications to patients.
  • Monitoring patients for any adverse reactions to the administered drugs.
  • Operating imaging equipment such as gamma cameras and probes.
  • Maintaining accurate records of procedures for compliance and inspections.
Required Qualifications
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • State certification as a Registered Radiologic Technician.
  • Certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMTCB) or Registered Radiographer (ARRT).
