Position Overview

Are you passionate about combating healthcare fraud and protecting vulnerable populations? The Department of Justice is seeking skilled investigative auditors to join our team in the Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse Investigation. This role requires a blend of analytical expertise and investigative acumen to recover misappropriated funds and safeguard our elderly citizens from financial exploitation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough investigations into allegations of Medi-Cal fraud and financial abuse targeting the elderly.
  • Leverage various law enforcement and governmental databases to collect intelligence relevant to ongoing investigations.
  • Analyze financial statements and billing data, perform reconciliations, and utilize advanced audit techniques to identify fraudulent activities.
  • Trace hidden assets and financial resources related to fraudulent schemes.
  • Assess corporate structures and engage with corporate personnel to gather pertinent information.
  • Participate in inspections of healthcare facilities and nursing homes.
  • Review medical and business documentation to compile comprehensive reports on victims and subjects involved in investigations.
  • Conduct interviews with victims, witnesses, and experts, and perform necessary fieldwork to support investigations.
  • Document investigative findings meticulously in Reports of Investigations and prepare declarations for search and arrest warrants.
  • Execute bank search warrants and participate in the execution of search warrants at various locations.
  • Compile evidence in accordance with legal standards to substantiate fraud and abuse allegations, preparing filing packages for the Deputy Attorney General.
  • Provide testimony in court as the lead investigator or as an expert witness.
  • Collaborate on joint investigations with DMFEA Special Agents and Deputy Attorneys General, as well as allied law enforcement agencies.

Working Conditions

This position allows for telework, contingent upon operational needs, with a requirement to be present in the office three days a week. Telework eligibility necessitates California residency.

  • Successful completion of a Modified Background Investigation is mandatory prior to employment.
  • A fingerprint check will be conducted.
  • Completion of Penal Code 832 training during the probationary period is required.
  • Indicate the job title and JC on your State Application's first page.
  • Eligibility based on education must be clearly stated in the application.
  • Submission of transcripts or diplomas is required if education is used to meet minimum qualifications.
