The Underground Mine Technician/Geologist is a critical role at Martin Marietta, responsible for conducting technical fieldwork at multiple underground room and pillar limestone mines. This position involves working closely with geotechnical staff to gather and analyze data, ensuring safe and timely decisions are made regarding underground mine conditions.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct borescoping and logging of the mine roof to collect critical data.
- Organize and manage geotechnical data, utilizing Microsoft Excel and other software as needed.
- Install, repair, and maintain ground monitoring instrumentation, including telltales, convergence monitors, and borehole extensometers.
- Map mine extents and maintain accurate paper maps.
- Assist with mine planning initiatives and participate in regular PLS mine surveys.
- Communicate key findings and data to geotechnical staff, support services, and site management in real-time.
- Promote Martin Marietta's safety culture and participate in safety initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with MSHA regulations and address any issues that arise.
This role operates in an underground production mining environment, involving the operation of heavy equipment such as manlifts and mining drills. The position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, as well as prolonged standing, sitting, and walking.
Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Mine Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, and other mine planning software is a plus.
- Motivation, self-direction, organization, and detail-oriented skills are essential.
- Effective communication and Microsoft Office skills are required.
