Fiber Optic Network Technician

Overview
Prince Telecom is a leading provider of telecommunications services, and we are currently seeking a highly skilled Fiber Optic R&M Technician to join our team. As a Fiber Optic R&M Technician, you will play a critical role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of our fiber optic networks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, repair, and maintain fiber optic cables and related equipment
- Climb utility poles and ladders
- Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 75 pounds
- Use a variety of hand tools
- Work in all types of inclement weather
- Enter underground facilities and use a shovel to uncover underground closures
- Coordinate fiber activities with other departments and staff
- Perform fiber tests using OTDRs, light sources, and meters
- Terminate, splice, bond/ground, and test fiber optic equipment to customer standards
- Provide accurate equipment location, splicing, and terminating records for the fiber database
- Assist the Construction and Engineering departments
- Build bays, racking, jumper ducts, and other network elements
- Monitor, communicate, and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting fiber and/or fiber-related equipment
- Provision and install media converters
- Serve as a technical resource for staff on all fiber-related areas and technical procedures
- Be available for on-call emergency coverage for fiber restoration year-round
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required, or equivalent education and experience
- Two years of experience with fiber optic cable technology, formal fiber optic training strongly desired
- One year of fiber optic cable splicing experience or completion of an equivalent training program
- Authorized to work in the United States for this company
- Able to lift/carry 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds as needed with or without assistance
- Able to meet the safety requirements of safety harnesses used for bucket trucks and climbing poles
- Able to work at ground level, crouch, squat, and sit
- Able to install network interface units outdoors on customer premises
- Valid standard driver's license with a minimum of two years of driving experience
- MVR record deemed acceptable by the company
- Good understanding of technologies and standards as they apply to the installation of fiber optic networks
- Working knowledge of design and layout for fiber terminations
- Good understanding of fiber documentation and ability to assist in laying out new fiber circuits
- Able to think analytically
- Excellent customer presentation and service skills
- Able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Able to work well under pressure and deadline environments
- Able to translate highly technical information to end-user customers and staff
- Able to communicate with other staff
- Able to handle on-call responsibilities
- Will act as a customer contact, interface with customers and local supervisors to clarify project status
- Will learn new equipment, software, and interfaces to help expand business opportunities
- Will work well within a team
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Adaptable to changing environments
- Will complete other duties as assigned
- Able to work weekends and overnights
- Able to differentiate color codes
- Able to read and understand manufacturers' manuals for operating and repairing electronic equipment and components
- Proficient in the operation of all related fiber tools and equipment
