Job Overview

Position Eligibility: This role qualifies for the Teacher's Retirement Board (TRB) Pension Program.

POSITION SUMMARY: The individual in this role will be tasked with delivering art education to students within a specialized educational setting. The instructor will report to the Director of Education or the Principal and will have significant autonomy over the classroom curriculum, subject to the Principal's endorsement. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement an art education curriculum for all students that aligns with Connecticut's art education standards.
  • Manage the procurement, utilization, and storage of art education supplies and equipment.
  • Evaluate the artistic strengths and areas for improvement of each student.
  • Foster students' interests, abilities, talents, and skills in artistic expression and creativity.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly progress reports on student performance.
  • Provide progress notes on students as required.
  • Establish and maintain substitute teaching folders.
  • Complete CCG (Crisis Consulting Group) training and perform physical restraints with clients when necessary.
  • Fulfill other assigned duties as needed.
  • Complete all mandatory agency training requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate personal boundaries with students, clients, and families, adhering to the agency's Boundary Code of Ethics.
  • Stay informed about the Policy and Procedure Manuals and access information as needed.
  • Promote the agency's Inclusion Policy by:
  • Identifying and addressing inequities and biases.
  • Engaging with others in a respectful manner.
  • Valuing the experiences of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children by reporting any potential safety hazards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One to two years of teaching or related experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a special education environment with emotionally disturbed and learning-disabled children and adolescents.
  • Thorough and current knowledge in all subjects taught.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capability to differentiate instruction across various grade levels.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Must meet Connecticut State Board of Education certification requirements recognized by the CT State Department of Education.
  • 042 Certification – Art, PK - 12.
