Role Overview:

The Retail Operations Supervisor plays a vital role in assisting the Store Manager with various aspects of store management, including staff oversight, sales performance, store upkeep, customer engagement, and financial record maintenance. This position supports the Manager in the daily operations of the assigned retail location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates staff training and oversight as directed.
    o Engages in the recruitment and interviewing processes for store personnel.
    o Assists in staff scheduling, ensuring accuracy, and submits payroll for processing.
    o Ensures compliance with all organizational policies regarding employee relations.
    o Timely submission of all employment-related documentation to the HR Department.
    o Provides training and support to individuals participating in work therapy programs.
  • Assists the Store Manager in maintaining the store's environment, focusing on safety, security, cleanliness, and overall presentation.
  • Ensures adherence to all safety and security policies.
    o Monitors compliance with display and layout plans.
    o Collaborates with the Store Manager to enhance the store's appeal to customers.
    o Implements procedures to minimize losses due to theft or spoilage.
  • Implements strategies for customer development and retention.
    o Creates a welcoming shopping atmosphere.
    o Engages positively with customers, setting a standard for staff interactions.
  • Assists the Store Manager with financial recordkeeping and reporting.
    o Applies approved cash handling procedures for register operations.
    o Aids in managing bank deposits and financial reporting.
  • Maintains open communication with the Store Manager regarding all operational aspects, sharing updates, concerns, and suggestions.
  • Works with the Store Manager to ensure financial performance aligns with budgetary guidelines.
    o Oversees cash handling in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Proactively promotes a positive image of The Salvation Army within the community.
    o Clarifies policies and procedures to address customer complaints and concerns.
  • Safeguards resources under supervision.
    o Implements loss prevention measures to minimize shrinkage.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent. A minimum of two years of retail experience is preferred, with thrift store experience being advantageous. An Associate's Degree is a plus.

Experience:

Prior retail experience with a focus on leadership and direction.

Certifications:

Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Skills and Abilities:

Proficient in English communication, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with customers and team members.
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Point of Sale systems and payroll software.
Ability to handle cash transactions accurately.

Supervisory Duties:

Provides guidance to staff as assigned and documents any behavioral or performance concerns.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Travel:

May require travel for training or work-related purposes.

Work Environment:

This position is situated in a retail environment with a moderate noise level. Conditions may vary, including dust and temperature fluctuations. Availability for full-time or part-time shifts, including weekends and evenings, is required.
