Position Overview

APPOINTMENT METHOD: Appointed by the Mayor

TERM LENGTH: Until December 31, 2026

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: Strong preference for District residency, ensuring representation from all 8 wards

COMPENSATION: No (all roles are voluntary)

Current District of Columbia residents will receive priority and advanced preference for screening and interviews.

Role Purpose

The Advisory Group on AI Values Alignment is established to engage with both internal and external stakeholders regarding the appropriate integration of AI Values with emerging and future AI technologies. The aim is to ensure that all stakeholder perspectives are acknowledged and to provide guidance to the Mayor on the continuous refinement and alignment of the District government's stated AI Values.

Articulated AI Values

The District government has defined six key AI Values:

  • Clear Benefit to the People
  • Safety & Equity
  • Accountability
  • Transparency
  • Sustainability
  • Privacy & Cybersecurity
Public Engagement

The Advisory Group will conduct public listening sessions and evaluate specific AI tools, deployments, or technologies, advising on how these may align with the established AI Values.

Membership Composition

Public Members: The Advisory Group will consist of public members who are not employees of the District government, including:

  • A public member to serve as Co-Chair
  • Additional public members with expertise in:
    • Racial equity
    • Disability rights
    • Labor relations
    • Criminal justice
    • Education
    • Healthcare
    • Privacy
    • Cybersecurity
    • Transparency/open government

Government Members: The Advisory Group will also include seventeen (17) government representatives, including:

  1. The City Administrator or their designee to serve as Co-Chair
  2. The Director of the Office of Racial Equity or their designee
  3. The Director of the Office of Disability Rights or their designee
  4. The Director of the Office on African-American Affairs or their designee
  5. The Director of the Office of Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining or their designee
  6. The Executive Director of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council or their designee
  7. The Director of the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency or their designee
  8. The Chancellor of District of Columbia Public Schools or their designee
  9. State Superintendent of Education or their designee
  10. The Director of the Department of Health or their designee
  11. The Chief Technology Officer or their designee
  12. The Chief Information Security Officer or their designee
  13. The Director of the Mayor's Office of Legal Counsel or their designee
  14. The Director of the Office of Open Government or their designee
  15. The Director of the Department of Employment Services or their designee
  16. The Director of the Department of Human Resources or their designee
  17. The Chief Procurement Officer of the Office of Contracting and Procurement or their designee
Commitment Expectations

The Advisory Group on AI Values Alignment will convene regularly in accordance with the District of Columbia Open Meetings Act, conducting at least two public listening sessions in the fiscal year and one session each subsequent fiscal year.
