Job Objectives:
This role involves providing a range of classroom assistance and personal care services for students under the guidance of a designated teacher.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma. Compliance with all mandated health requirements (e.g., negative tuberculosis test, etc.). Clear criminal record documentation. Adherence to drug-free workplace policies and board regulations. Valid Ohio Department of Education Permit relevant to the assignment. Self-motivated and capable of acquiring necessary skills for the role. Ability to physically assist students with disabilities. Friendly demeanor and strong interpersonal skills. Successful pre-employment and ongoing random drug test results. Capacity to manage stressful situations such as traffic, weather conditions, and passenger distractions.
Note:
Appointment necessitates successful completion and periodic renewal of state-mandated and service center training requirements (e.g., communicable disease, child abuse, CPR, first aid, and/or behavioral management training).
Preschool Assignment Requirements:
Completion of forty-five hours of in-service training (in fifteen-hour annual increments). Five hours of annual in-service training thereafter.
Note:
This position may require a valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and/or completion of van driver training. Employees must meet all prerequisite and ongoing qualifications to be covered by the service center's insurance.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Communicates with the teacher for guidance. Works with small groups and/or individual students. Seeks clarification when expectations are ambiguous. Upholds board policies and adheres to administrative guidelines and procedures. Promotes a positive image of the service center. Supports community/school partnerships that enhance operational effectiveness. Assists students with remedial and/or enrichment activities. Reinforces instructional objectives set by the teacher. Maintains a constructive learning environment. Offers assistance when students request help or their behavior indicates a need for support. Avoids being intrusive. Addresses student concerns discreetly. Fosters an inclusive educational atmosphere. Aids students with disabilities in participating in suitable peer group activities as directed. Assists with student mobility needs. Aids students in utilizing assistive and/or augmentative devices.
Positions students to maximize their learning environment (e.g., line-of-sight, proximity to equipment, height of work surfaces, etc.).
Adheres to prescribed medical plans and/or assists students with personal hygiene care (e.g., toileting, catheterization, feeding, etc.) as instructed by a licensed healthcare professional.
Employees must remain free from alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances while on duty throughout their employment with the District.
