Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as a Childcare Program Development Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate learning experiences that engage the whole child in the childcare program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the classroom team to develop and implement learning experiences that meet the needs of all children.
  • Support the readiness of children through social/emotional, cognitive, physical, and language activities.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment that promotes the well-being of all children.
  • Encourage family involvement and strengthen relationships between children, families, and the community.
  • Maintain working knowledge of SMOC Child Care philosophy and all regulations and performance standards applicable to the assigned classroom.
  • Support the classroom team in planning, preparing, and implementing a successful learning environment that supports and challenges each child's development.
  • Participate in opportunities for staff growth and development.
  • Observe and record children's behavior for the purpose of assessing skills and planning appropriately to meet individual and group needs.
  • Assess classroom needs for equipment, materials, and supplies and report to the lead teacher and/or supervisor.
  • Maintain the space, equipment, materials, and supplies in a safe, clean, and orderly fashion.
  • Maintain strict adherence to health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, workshops, trainings, committee meetings, and parent functions.
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive relationship by maintaining contact with families through phone calls, conferences, arrivals and departures, and family volunteer opportunities.
  • Mandated Reporter training on filing 51A's - all staff are mandated reporters.
  • Actively supervise children.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and the whereabouts of all children under your care at all times.
  • Engage all children and parents by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of work.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings as requested and communicate effectively with clients and staff in other areas.
  • Ensure full compliance with program/department, EEC, agency, and/or funder requirements, as well as SMOC policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with school-age children.
  • Must be comfortable working with diverse backgrounds and able to effectively communicate with children, families, and co-workers.
  • Bi-lingual a plus.
  • Lifting of children - up to 30 lbs.
  • Physically able to perform CPR including 1) ability to get on the floor, 2) ability to give an effective breath (making the chest rise), and 3) ability to give effective chest compressions.
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors on most days regardless of the weather.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with children in a childcare setting preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and co-workers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift children up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to perform CPR.
