About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Experimental Semiconducting Quantum Physicist to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a member of our team, you will contribute to research that tackles the problems of designing, controlling, and scaling semiconducting qubit systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Propose and Lead Independent Research Projects: Develop and execute novel research projects focused on semiconducting quantum devices, controls, or characterization techniques.
  • Collaborate with APL Staff: Work with other APL staff to identify emerging challenges with quantum solutions and contribute to the development of innovative solutions.
  • Support Ongoing Programs: Make immediate contributions to ongoing programs in quantum information science, focusing on the implementation of quantum characterization, control, and error protection strategies in semiconducting spin qubit systems.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a Closely Related Field: A doctoral degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Post-Doctoral Experience: At least 1 year of post-doctoral experience with quantum systems is required.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for success in this role.
  • Research Accomplishments: A proven record of research accomplishments and publications in the field of quantum science is required.
  • Travel Requirements: Occasional travel to sponsor sites, conferences, and workshops may be required.
  • Security Clearance: The ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by the start date and ultimately obtain a TS/SCI+poly level clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant Experimental Experience: Significant, firsthand experimental experience with semiconducting spin qubit design, quantum dot tuning, RF control, and/or dilution refrigerator operation is highly desirable.
  • Modeling Experience: Significant experience modeling multi-level, multi-qubit, and/or light-matter interactions is highly desirable.
  • Contributions to Sophisticated Projects: A record of significant contributions on projects pursuing highly sophisticated objectives is highly desirable.
  • Collaboration with Theorists: Experience collaborating closely with theorists is highly desirable.
  • Active Security Clearance: An active TS/SCI+poly security clearance is highly desirable.
