About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Experimental Superconducting Quantum Physicist to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a member of our team, you will contribute to research that tackles the problems of designing, controlling, and scaling superconducting qubit systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Propose and lead independent research projects focused on novel superconducting quantum devices, controls, or characterization techniques.
  • Work collaboratively with other APL staff to identify emerging challenges with quantum solutions.
  • Support ongoing programs in quantum information science by making immediate contributions to efforts that are looking to implement quantum characterization, control, and error protection strategies in superconducting qubit systems.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 1+ years of post-doctoral (or equivalent) experimental experience with quantum systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven record of research accomplishments and publications in the field of quantum science.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a TS/SCI+poly level clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant hands-on experimental experience with superconducting qubit design, RF control, quantum measurements, and/or dilution refrigerator operation.
  • Significant experience modeling multi-level, multi-qubit, and/or light-matter interactions.
  • Record of significant contributions on projects pursuing highly sophisticated objectives.
  • Experience collaborating closely with theorists.
  • Active TS/SCI+poly security clearance.
