Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Manager will oversee all quality assurance activities within the plant to ensure adherence to both company standards and regulatory guidelines. This role is pivotal in maintaining Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Sanitation Practices (GSP), and ensuring the quality of our products and services. The position reports directly to the Corporate Quality Assurance Manager while also collaborating closely with the Plant Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Local Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the Plant Manager and management team to create and execute a comprehensive Plant Quality Plan, defining the quality function's role and ensuring effective communication with all associates for continuous improvement.
  2. Act as the facility's SQF Practitioner, maintaining SQF Level 3 certification and leading continuous improvement initiatives.
  3. Regularly review and audit manufacturing processes to confirm compliance with established standards, promptly addressing any nonconformities.
  4. Stay informed about Federal and State regulations, ensuring the facility's compliance and representing it during inspections and audits.
  5. Maintain and enforce Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines in coordination with Plant Management and Corporate Quality Assurance.
  6. Work with Plant Management to validate sanitation practices and conduct periodic audits for compliance, while also evaluating new products and techniques.
  7. Review and manage product specifications, establishing systems for controlling and documenting product release and disposition.
  8. Provide leadership for the facility laboratory, ensuring all personnel are trained and supervised effectively.
  9. Collaborate with Production Associates to set quality assessment procedures for incoming goods and raw materials, and work with Purchasing to enforce quality standards with vendors.
  10. Develop and monitor the Quality Department budget, providing regular analysis and reporting on its status.
  11. Establish and oversee training programs for Operations and Quality personnel to ensure effectiveness.

Global Responsibilities:

  1. Implement programs supporting Upstate Farms' commitment to product excellence.
  2. Establish Plant Quality Metrics in collaboration with Corporate Quality Assurance.
  3. Prepare and distribute weekly Plant Quality reports.
  4. Represent the Plant in Quality Committee meetings.
  5. Maintain a log of concessions and ensure effective communication with Corporate Quality.
  6. Design and implement necessary quality programs, including Hold Policy, Recall Policy, and HACCP Program.

Supervisory Duties:

Manage all Plant Quality Assurance personnel, ensuring compliance with both company and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and evaluating staff, as well as addressing any performance issues.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Food, Dairy, or Natural Sciences, along with five to seven years of relevant experience in Quality Programs within the Food and Beverage industry. Knowledge of ISO Quality Management Systems, HACCP, and statistical process control is preferred. Previous supervisory experience and strong computer skills are also desirable.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret business documents, technical procedures, and government regulations. Proficient in writing reports and correspondence, and capable of effectively presenting information to various stakeholders.

Physical Demands:

This role requires frequent communication and occasional physical activity, including lifting up to 55 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Employees may be exposed to wet conditions and moving mechanical parts, with a moderate noise level.
