Position Overview:
The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) operates at a proficient level in delivering respiratory care. This role requires the RRT to demonstrate competence in managing patients with emergency, acute, and intensive care needs with minimal supervision.
The RRT is expected to exhibit clinical leadership by contributing to care standards and departmental objectives. They serve as a mentor for colleagues, guide new staff, and engage in initiatives to enhance respiratory care knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Practice:
Deliver comprehensive care to patients and families through a holistic approach. Ensure documentation accurately reflects patient outcomes and adjustments in care based on current hospital standards and policies.
Develop innovative problem-solving strategies, assess situations comprehensively, and prioritize effectively in dynamic environments. Recognize and address family needs related to the patient's condition, while establishing therapeutic boundaries and incorporating diverse family systems into treatment plans.
Professionalism and Leadership:
Exhibit professionalism in practice and serve as a role model for positive respiratory care representation. Interact with patients, families, and colleagues with respect and dignity.
Dedicate time to understanding family needs and enhancing the patient experience. Provide accurate status reports to the healthcare team, reflecting respiratory interventions and patient outcomes.
Research and Quality Improvement:
Integrate research findings into clinical practice and participate in quality improvement initiatives. Engage in data collection for departmental research studies and evaluate current literature to inform practice.
Collaborate in developing and implementing research activities aimed at enhancing clinical outcomes.
Education and Professional Development:
Initiate and participate in educational activities to foster professional growth. Identify personal learning needs and seek opportunities for training to enhance respiratory knowledge and skills.
Maintain active membership in professional organizations and contribute to policy development. Share insights gained from educational experiences with peers.
Resource Management:
Teach effective utilization of resources and recommend improvements for quality and cost-effective care. Monitor supply usage and implement strategies to minimize waste.
Address staffing efficiencies and manage time effectively to balance direct and indirect patient care responsibilities.
