Role Summary

The Director of International Student and Scholar Services acts as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and oversees compliance with federal immigration regulations, specifically for F and J visa holders. This leadership role involves managing the immigration advisory team, ensuring adherence to the regulations set forth by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of State (DOS). The Director is responsible for providing expert guidance on immigration matters and ensuring that best practices are followed within the institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Immigration Advisory Team - Supervise and mentor staff to effectively guide students and scholars on immigration protocols, ensuring compliance with their visa requirements.
  • Act as PDSO and represent the institution during official audits and site visits, maintaining F-1 SEVIS certification through diligent record-keeping and updates.
  • Develop and implement institutional policies for international students and scholars, addressing complex immigration cases as the primary expert.
  • Manage the budget and financial resources of the International Student Services Office.
  • Stay informed on immigration regulations, conducting research and benchmarking against peer institutions to maintain compliance.
  • Oversee the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program, advising incoming scholars and ensuring all necessary documentation is completed accurately.
  • Provide training and education to university departments regarding immigration policies and regulations.
  • Assist in the onboarding and training of new staff and student workers on relevant policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to enhance services for international students.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with a talent for clearly articulating complex regulations.
  • Proficient organizational skills, including planning, time management, and project oversight.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy in all aspects of work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Alignment with the mission and values of Concordia University and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree is preferred.
  • At least three years of professional experience in advising university students, ideally within a four-year institution.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal regulations governing F and J visa holders is essential.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.

Compensation & Benefits Overview
