Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Powered Support Systems Mechanic to join our team at Air National Guard Units. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing complex powered support equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently determine work sequences, specifications, and special procedures to fault isolate and repair unusual problems in powered support equipment.
  • Conduct classes to train maintenance personnel in operations, test procedures, and troubleshooting requirements of complex powered support equipment.
  • Responsible for accurate interpretation of technical data, such as manufacturer drawings, specifications, operating instructions, and test procedures.
  • Correct unusual maintenance problems by interpreting technical data and using sophisticated testers.
  • Perform maintenance data collection and prepare required forms.
  • Use a variety of sophisticated testers to determine repair requirements.
  • Perform intermediate-level maintenance on powered support equipment and non-powered Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE).
  • Participate in conducting the necessary safety program for the AGE activity.
  • Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, servicing, repair, and adjustments on complex rotary diesel engines.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, modify, and operate AGE, such as AC and DC power generators, internal combustion engines, air compressors, and hydraulic test stands.
Requirements
  • Must possess experience or training in mechanical maintenance work, ability to read and use technical manuals, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools.
  • Must possess specialized experience in removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories.
  • Must possess working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems.
  • Must possess skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments.
  • Must possess working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships.
Qualifications
  • Must be an Enlisted member of the Illinois National Guard with a minimum rank of A1C and a maximum rank of TSgt.
  • Must possess a basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic theory and the makeup and operation of the various individual systems and their interrelationships.
  • Must possess experience using a small variety of test and measurement devices.
Additional Information
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
